Summer 2017: Italy

Welcomed to Italy with a nice view and a rose!

We officially landed in Italy yesterday! We were welcomed by our HUF (Harding in Florence) Director and the Assistant to the Director! It was exciting the finally meet them! Once we arrived at the villa we got settled in and the girls were each welcomed with a rose. After we were welcomed into the villa we were immediately fed some of the best food that I have ever tasted. We were served what I thought was a simple meal, pasta with tomato sauce with turkey, salad, and bread, but it was the best meal I have ever eaten. Something that I learned about meals in Italy is that you are typically served two courses. The first course is typically a pasta dish and the second course typically consists of meat and vegetables. After dinner we all got settled in and tried to rest for the next day.

Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Gelato

The next morning we were awoken with pastries and coffee. In the afternoon, we got to walk around Scandicci and see all that it has to offer! Our first place was to get gelato! I tried my best to speak Italian This will be the first of many gelato runs for this semester! Our second stop was a little cafe on the square where we stopped for water or a cappuccino.  After our treats, we walked to a castle and explored it before we were given free time to walk around and explore the city.

The view from our walk to Scandicci

One of the places that we went to was a cheese store named Formaggi Franco Parola! Once you opened the doors you immediately smelled freshly made cheese. This is the store where our director purchases the cheese for our group and might I say, it tastes delicious! Formaggi Franco Parola had all kinds of cheese behind glass that you could pick from as well as huge blocks of cheese on shelves. I can’t wait to go back and try different kinds of cheese!

Say cheese!
